This campaign

This campaign is in two parts. There is the Primary campaign within the Democratic party and there is the General Election subsequently.

The Democratic Primary

Why am I bothering with the Democratic party, some of my friends ask? Because the principles of the Democratic party - at least the one with which I grew up - McCarthy, McGovern, Fred Harris - that's where I belong. That's where a lot of the grassroots membership of the Democratic party and a good chunk of Maine remains. I am bothering precisely because of the lack of principles and the total disconnect of the so-called leadership of the Democratic party from the everyday Democratic membership and citizenry.

We are in crisis as Americans and as a species. The energy that has fueled the growth of the human race is running out. The resources that we race to consume are running out. The model of American business - bigger is better, more efficient is better, One Market Under God - has failed. We are killing ourselves maximizing profit, greed and trash. Yet it is organized wealth to which our leadership responds.

That we're serfs in a corporate fiefdom is old news to those with little faith in the political process. [Yes, I'm Chris Miller and I authorized this message!]

A forward looking message of decentralization, democratic capitalism, of "we're all in this together" is a Democratic message. The citizens must take control of the economy or they will drown in the moat. We need steel, rails and local farms - not guns, flags and foreign occupations. We need patriots not nationalists. We need hope not fear.

We need organization to make this paradigm shift, because no one person can do it. I hope the Democratic party will take up the challenge.

The General Election

A forward looking message of decentralization, democratic capitalism, of "we're all in this together" is more than a Maine message. It is an American message. It's the same message. The citizens must take control of the economy or they will drown in the moat. We need steel, rails and local farms - not guns, flags and foreign occupations. We need patriots not nationalists. We need hope not fear.

We need organization to make this paradigm shift, because no one person can do it. I hope Maine will take up the challenge.

Clean Elections

This campaign is privately funded and does not use Maine Clean Elections funding. Jumping in this late, toward the end of January, the first priority is collecting signatures to get on the ballot for the Primary. Collecting several thousand $5 checks is out of the question in the time available. Operational necessity. Clean Elections is a good program that deserves support - not the backstabbing and gutting it gets behind the scenes from both major parties. The past budget took millions out of the Clean Election Fund to balance the overall budget. Tell your legislators to put the money back.
